What does Airwallex Yield actually invest in?

Airwallex Yield Liquidity Fund invests nearly all of its assets in JP Morgan money market funds, which in turn invests in a wide variety of highly liquid and low-risk assets. These assets include bonds issued by central banks like the US Federal Reserve and the Reserve Bank of Australia, as well as short-term assets from major international banks. Some examples of current assets include:

  • Medium-term ANZ Bank notes
  • Barclays Bank commercial paper
  • Bank of Tokyo Certificates of Deposit

Both the underlying AUD and USD funds have received the highest ratings from top rating agencies, including an ‘AAAm’ rating from Standard & Poors, which indicates an extremely strong capacity to maintain principal stability and limit potential losses due to credit risk. Most of the funds' assets are highly liquid, maturing within 60 business days.

How does Airwallex keep my assets safe?

Airwallex Yield is a managed Investment scheme product and all investments carry risks.

While Yield is not a savings account and is not covered by the Financial Claims Scheme (FCS) or the Australian Government Guarantee Scheme, money market funds are generally considered low risk. The Airwallex Yield Fund is a feeder fund and its rates closely track those of the underlying JPMorgan Liquidity funds, which closely follows the local cash rate and is AAA-rated.

Customer funds invested in Airwallex Yield are always segregated from Airwallex’s operational funds during the time that they are held in the Fund. The holdings in the JP Morgan funds are held securely in custody by Artega Investment Administration, a licensed custodian. The Fund is also managed by a regulated trustee, K2 Asset Management Ltd.

What is the difference between interest earned on a deposit and rate of return on an investment?

Interest rate on deposits

Interest rates on deposits refer to the percentage of the deposit that a financial institution pays to the depositor as income. This interest is typically based on the deposit's principal and does not include factors like price appreciation or dividends, which are more relevant to investment products. The interest rate on a deposit is usually fixed or variable and is paid periodically (e.g., monthly or annually)

Return on Investment

Return on investment is the percentage gain or loss on an investment relative to its initial cost, over a specified period of time. It can include several components such as capital gains, dividends, or interest, depending on the type of investment. It accounts for both the price appreciation (or depreciation) of the asset and any income it generates.
