Troubleshooting common Xero connection errors

Below we’ve shared common Xero connection error scenarios and the troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve them.

Why am I seeing an error with my connected Xero bank accounts?

The reason you are seeing this error is because our attempt to sync data to the connected Xero bank account failed. The bank account is not in an active state, which is likely due to it having been either archived or deleted in Xero.

You will first need to confirm whether your bank account has been archived or deleted. To do so, log in to your Xero organisation and check your list of archived accounts. If your bank account shows up in the archived accounts list, then it was archived. If it does not show up in the list, then it means that the bank account was deleted.

To restore a connection to an archived bank account, follow these steps.

Step 1: In Xero, restore the bank account

Step 2: In Airwallex, return to the account mapping page. You do not need to make any changes to the mapping, simply save the existing mapping. This should resolve the error.

To fix the connection error when the bank account was deleted, you must go to Airwallex’s edit account mapping page and select another Xero bank account.

Why am I seeing an error about duplicated Xero bank account names when mapping my accounts?

This error occurs when you select the option to “create new Xero bank account” option when performing your account mapping. Airwallex will attempt to create a Xero bank account with a default bank account name. However, Xero blocked the creation of the bank account because an archived bank account with that same name already exists in your Xero organisation.

To confirm whether the archived bank account with the same name already exists, you can check your list of archived accounts in Xero.

There are 3 ways you can resolve this issue:

Option 1: Restore the archived bank account in Xero if you wish to continue using it. You can then retry the account mapping in Airwallex to the restored bank account.

Option 2: Use another existing active bank account if you have another bank account ready to sync Airwallex transactions to. On the Airwallex account mapping page, select it from the Xero bank account dropdown.

Option 3: Rename the archived bank account in Xero so that you can use a newly created bank account in Airwallex. Once you restore the archived bank account, rename it to a new name in order to free up the original name. At this point, you can optionally choose to archive it again. This will allow you to retry and successfully complete the account mapping process in Airwallex with a newly created Xero bank account.
