Airwallex Bill Pay does not currently support paying vendor or government bills by scanning an FPS QR code in Hong Kong. This limitation applies to payer‑initiated QR flows commonly found on IRD, utilities, and other government demand notes.
What’s not supported
- Scanning an FPS QR code from within Airwallex to pay a bill is not available in Bill Pay.
- Paying Hong Kong government bills that only present an FPS QR, PPS, or a Shroff/account reference without a standard bank account and bank code is not supported via a normal transfer from Airwallex.
What is supported today
- You can use Bill Pay to pay approved bills by domestic transfer when the vendor provides standard bank account details (and the account currency matches the bill).
- After paying a bill outside Airwallex (e.g., via a bank that supports FPS QR/PPS/e‑Cheque), you can mark the bill as paid in Airwallex using the “I have already paid using a non‑Airwallex method” option (see how to mark bills as paid here: https://help.airwallex.com/hc/en-gb/articles/14018499891087-Mark-Bills-as-Paid).
Alternatives and workarounds
- If the biller provides full bank details: pay by transfer in Bill Pay following the standard “Pay Bills by Transfer” steps.
- If the bill requires FPS QR/PPS only:
- Pay the bill via a third‑party method (e.g., a Hong Kong bank that supports FPS QR or PPS), then mark the bill as paid in Airwallex.
- If you don’t have another HK bank account, consider appointing a Hong Kong tax representative/accountant to pay via FPS QR/PPS/e‑Cheque and reimburse them by sending HKD from your Airwallex account.
- Alternatively, open a basic HK bank account, transfer HKD from Airwallex, and use that bank’s FPS/PPS/e‑Cheque channels to make the payment.
About FPS at Airwallex
Airwallex supports FPS as a payment acceptance method for merchants (i.e., to collect funds from customers), which is separate from Bill Pay’s payout functionality. FPS acceptance involves customers scanning a merchant’s FPS QR code to pay, and is not the same as paying your own vendor or government bills via FPS QR from Bill Pay.
FAQs
- Can I upload or scan an FPS QR code in Airwallex to pay my bill?
No. Bill Pay does not currently support payer‑initiated FPS QR code scanning for bill payments. - Can I make an FPS transfer using a proxy (email/phone) to pay the IRD?
Attempts to pay IRD with FPS proxies are rejected or unsupported in the current payer flow; use an alternative method and then mark the bill as paid. - How do I reflect a payment I made outside of Airwallex?
Open the bill in Airwallex and use the “Mark as paid using a non‑Airwallex method” option to update its status.
