Introduction
The Airwallex and DATEV connection automates your financial bookkeeping by establishing a direct bank feed between the two platforms. This integration automatically syncs your Airwallex multi-currency wallet transactions into DATEV as a booking batch (Buchungsstapel), eliminating manual CSV exports and streamlining reconciliation for you and your tax advisor (Steuerberater).
Unlike a real-time API feed, DATEV receives transactions as scheduled batch files. You choose how often the feed runs (daily, weekly, or monthly), and you can also run a one-time historical sync to bring across past transactions.
This setup guide covers:
Setup Instructions
Part 1: Prerequisites – Find your Consultant and Client numbers
DATEV identifies your business using two numbers that you will enter during the connection. Ask your tax advisor for these if you don't have them:
- Consultant Number (Berater-Nr): your tax advisor's DATEV consultant number.
- Client Number (Mandanten-Nr): your company's client number within that consultant.
- Fiscal Year Start Date: the start date of your accounting financial year (e.g. 1 January 2026).
Note: Each DATEV client (Mandant) connects on a one-to-one basis to an Airwallex entity. If you have multiple entities, you will repeat the connection for each one.
Part 2: Initiate the connection from Airwallex
Once the prerequisites above are complete, initiate the connection from within your Airwallex account.
-
Navigate to Settings → Connections: Open the DATEV tile to view the overview, then click Connect.
-
Enter your DATEV numbers: Input your Consultant Number (Berater-Nr) and Client Number (Mandanten-Nr) to map your Airwallex entity to your DATEV client (Mandant).
-
Authenticate with DATEV: You will be redirected to DATEV to sign in and approve access. Once authorised, you'll be returned to Airwallex with a connected DATEV account.
Note: The connection uses DATEV's secure authorisation. Each connection is scoped to a single client (Mandant).
Part 3: Map accounts and set your sync schedule
After a successful connection, complete the configuration so Airwallex knows where to post your transactions.
-
Map your accounts: For each Airwallex wallet you want to sync, enter the DATEV account (Konto) and contra-account (Gegenkonto) numbers. DATEV does not provide a list of bank accounts, so these are entered manually based on your DATEV chart of accounts (Kontenrahmen). When you select a wallet, the Gegenkonto is pre-filled with a default value (10001), which you can edit.
-
Choose your sync schedule: Select how often the feed runs – daily (at noon CET), weekly, or monthly. This controls how frequently your Airwallex transactions are delivered to DATEV.
- Finish: Confirm to activate the feed. Your wallet transactions will now sync to DATEV automatically on your chosen schedule.
Note: Multi-currency wallets are supported (e.g. EUR, USD, GBP). Each transaction is delivered in its original currency. Credit and yield wallets will be supported in a future update.
Managing Your Bank Feed Connection
Once connected, open the DATEV tile in your Airwallex Connections to manage your integration. From here you can:
- View your configuration: See your current reporting schedule, fiscal year start, and wallet currency mapping.
- Edit mappings: Update your entity mapping, account mappings (Konto / Gegenkonto), or sync schedule at any time.
- Run a historical sync: Trigger a one-time backfill to bring past transactions into DATEV for a chosen date range.
- Disconnect: Remove the DATEV connection via a confirmation flow.
How to sync older transactions
When you first connect, transactions from the last 30 days are synced to DATEV, along with all new transactions going forward. Transactions older than 30 days before the connection will not be synced automatically. To bring across past activity, use the Sync older transactions feature to backfill a specified date range.
- Open the DATEV tile in your Airwallex Connections.
- Open the account mapping you want to backfill and select Sync historical transactions.
- Specify the wallet / currency, a start date, and an end date for the period you want to sync.
- Confirm to start the sync. The selected transactions will be generated into a DATEV booking batch and delivered to DATEV on the next sync.
Do note that DATEV does not automatically detect duplicate transactions. If you sync a period that has already been booked, this can create duplicate entries in DATEV.Only backfill periods that have not yet been synced, and check with your tax advisor if you are unsure.
