How do I use my Airwallex card with Apple Pay?

You can use eligible Airwallex-issued cards with Apple Pay to make fast, secure payments in-store, in apps and on the web.

This article covers:

  1. How to add your card to Apple Pay
  2. What to do if you see “Card Not Added – Contact Your Issuer” or are asked to call us to verify your card
  3. Limits, supported devices and where you’ll see your transactions
  4. What to do if your phone is lost or stolen, or if you delete a card from Apple Pay

Note: If you received your Airwallex-powered card from another company (for example your employer or a platform you work with), some steps (like who to contact for support) may be branded or handled by that company. Always follow any instructions they provided on the card, in their app, or in their help centre.

1. How to add your card to Apple Pay

You can add your Airwallex card to Apple Pay from your iPhone Settings or directly from the Wallet app.

1.1 Adding your card directly from the Airwallex app

On our Airwallex iOS app, you can also add your card to Apple Pay directly from the app

  2. Scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.

    • If your device supports it, use Tap to Add Card in Wallet: when prompted, tap your physical contactless card on the top of your iPhone and follow the on-screen steps.
  5. When asked for your billing address, use your business address (the address registered with your Airwallex account, if applicable).
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts until your card is added and verified.
  7. Once set up, you’ll see your card in your Apple Wallet.

  2. Tap the + button in the top right.
  3. Select Debit or Credit Card.
  4. Scan your card or tap Enter Card Details Manually.
  5. Enter your billing address (your business address, unless told otherwise).
  6. Complete any additional verification steps (for example, a one-time code or security questions).
  7. When everything is complete, your card will appear in your Wallet and is ready for use.

1.4 Setting your default card in Apple Pay

  1. Go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay.
  2. Under Default Card, tap and select your Airwallex card.

If you don’t set it as default, make sure you swipe through your cards in Wallet and select your Airwallex card before holding your device near the terminal.

2. Apple Pay verification and “Contact Your Issuer” messages

In some cases, Apple may require extra verification from your card issuer before your card can be added to Apple Pay. This is part of Apple’s digital wallet security requirements and is expected behaviour.

You may see messages like:

  • “Card Not Added – Contact Your Issuer”, or
  • Instructions to call the phone number on the back of your card or contact your bank.

2.1 Why is extra verification required?

Extra verification can be triggered by factors such as:

  • The number of devices your card is already added to
  • Our fraud and risk checks on your card or account
  • Whether your card has been blocked, suspended or replaced
  • Unusual activity or details that need to be confirmed

This helps protect you and your business from unauthorized use.

2.2 What you should do if you’re asked to contact us

If Apple tells you to contact your issuer or you see “Card Not Added – Contact Your Issuer”:

  • If you are an Airwallex customer:
    • Call the support phone number shown:
      • On the back of your physical card, or
      • In the Airwallex app / web portal under Support / Help.
    • Or, use any dedicated Apple Pay / card activation support form linked from the Airwallex Help Centre.
  • If you received your card from another company (e.g. your employer or a platform):
    • First follow the instructions in their help centre, app, or documentation.
    • If they’ve provided a dedicated cardholder support phone number or form, use that channel to request Apple Pay verification.

When you contact support, be ready to provide:

  • Your full name
  • Your business name (if applicable)
  • The last 4 digits of the card you’re trying to add
  • Your date of birth and ID details (if required for identity verification)
  • A brief description of the issue (for example, “Apple Pay shows ‘Card Not Added – Contact Your Issuer’ when I try to add my card”).

Our support team will:

  • Perform any additional authentication required, and
  • Allow your card to be added to Apple Pay.

We aim to complete this verification within approximately 2 business hours after receiving all required information.

3. Limits and supported devices

3.1 How many devices can I add my card to?

You can typically add your card to Apple Wallets on multiple Apple devices (for example, several iPhones, iPads, or Apple Watches associated with your Apple ID).

If you reach the device limit, you may need to remove your card from older devices before adding it to a new one.

3.2 How many cards can I add to a single device?

The number of cards you can add depends on your device:

  • On Apple Watch Series 3 and later and iPhone 8 / 8 Plus and later, you can usually add up to 12 cards.
  • On earlier models, you can usually add up to 8 cards.

These limits are set by Apple and may change over time. Check Apple’s support site for the latest information

3.3 Does removing a card from my iPhone affect the card on my Apple Watch?

No. Any card added to your Apple Watch is treated independently from the card on your iPhone or other Apple devices.

3.4 Does unpairing an Apple Watch remove Apple Pay cards?

Yes. If you unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone, any cards stored on the watch for Apple Pay will be removed.

4. Viewing your Apple Pay transactions

You can see your Apple Pay transactions in two places:

  • In your Apple device (Wallet), and
  • In your Airwallex account (or the account provided by your card programme).

4.1 On your iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay.
  2. Tap your Airwallex card.
  3. Tap Transactions to see your recent Apple Pay purchases made with that device.

5. Lost or stolen iPhone or device

If your iPhone or another Apple device with your card in Apple Pay is lost or stolen, act as soon as possible to prevent unauthorised transactions.

5.1 Option 1 – Remove your cards using your Apple ID

This is usually the quickest and most secure option.

  1. On another device, go to your Apple ID account page or open Find My iPhone.
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Select the lost device.
  4. In the Apple Pay section, choose Remove or Remove All.

Your cards will be removed from Apple Pay on that device, even if it is currently offline.

5.2 Option 2 – Contact support to suspend or remove cards

You can also contact:

  • Airwallex customer support (for direct Airwallex cardholders), or
  • The support team provided by the company that issued your card (for example, your employer or platform).

They can:

  • Remove the Apple Pay card for that device, and
  • Freeze or cancel your physical/virtual card if needed.

You will usually be asked for:

  • Your name and business name
  • The last 4 digits of the affected card
  • Confirmation that the device is lost or stolen

Important: If you only freeze your card in your Airwallex account, it may still be possible to unfreeze it from the Apple Wallet on the device in some scenarios. For a lost or stolen phone, it is safer to:

  • Remove cards from Apple Pay (Option 1), and/or
  • Ask support to suspend or delete the Apple Pay register card on that device.

5.3 Option 3 – Freeze your card in your Airwallex account

If you cannot do Option 1 or reach support immediately:

  1. Log in to your Airwallex account.
  2. Go to Cards in the left menu.
  3. Find the card(s) you’ve added to Apple Pay.
  4. Click the ⋯ (three dots) next to the card and select Freeze card.
  5. Repeat for each affected card.

Freezing your card:

  • Stops it being used in-store, online, and in Apple Pay until it is unfrozen.

You can unfreeze your card later once you have followed the secure steps above or recovered your device.

6. Re-adding or resuming cards in Apple Pay

6.1 Can I add a card again if I deleted it once?

Yes. If you have removed a card from Apple Pay, you can add it again at any time=

If you previously had trouble adding the card due to too many devices, make sure you’ve removed the card from old devices first.

6.2 Can I resume cards if I find my lost device?

This depends on what actions were taken:

  • If you removed your card(s) from Apple Pay (via Apple ID or Find My iPhone):
    • You’ll need to add them again to Apple Pay on your device.
  • If support suspended (but did not permanently delete) the Apple Pay cards:
    • Contact the same support team again and ask for the cards to be reactivated.
    • They will perform identity checks before reactivating.
  • If your card itself was permanently cancelled:
    • You’ll need to wait for a replacement card and then add the new card to Apple Pay.

7. Having trouble adding your card?

If you still can’t add your card to Apple Pay after following this article:

  • Double-check that:
    • Your device is eligible for Apple Pay and running a supported iOS version.
    • Your card is active, not expired, and not blocked.
    • You’re using the correct billing address.
  • Remove the card from older devices and try again if you may have reached the device limit.
  • If you still see “Card Not Added – Contact Your Issuer” or similar messages:
    • Contact the support team shown on your card or in your app,
    • Provide the error message and the last 4 digits of your card, and
    • We’ll complete any required Apple Pay verification so you can finish adding your card.
