How do I create a card?

Admin users can create cards in their accounts by following the guide below.

Step 1: Log in to Airwallex and go to Cards

  1. Log in to your Airwallex account.
  2. From the main navigation, go to Cards.

Step 2: Click “New card”

On the Cards page, select New card to start the card creation flow.

Step 3: Select your desired card type

Select the card type that best fits how the card will be used. Airwallex supports two types of cards:

  • Company cards – virtual cards used for software subscriptions, office expenses, or other vendor spend.
  • Employee cards – virtual or physical cards issued to an individual employee for travel, client entertainment, or general business expenses.

Step 4: Select the user(s) who will be using the card

Who you can assign depends on the card type:

  • Employee cards – can be issued to an individual user.
  • Company cards – can be shared with up to 3 card contacts.

Select the relevant user(s) from the list.

Step 5: Provide a card nickname

Give the card a clear, descriptive nickname so it’s easy to identify later.

Step 6: Set the card’s spend limit

Spend limits control how much can be spent on the card and how often the limit resets.

You can customise:

  • Amount – the maximum spend for the chosen period
  • Currency – the currency the limit is set in
  • Frequency – how often the limit resets

Note: Regardless of the limit currency, the card can be used to transact in any currency.

You can set recurring limits (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly), or set an all-time limit if you wish to control the total amount that can be spent on the card.

  • Daily: Resets every day
  • Weekly: Resets on Monday each week
  • Monthly: Resets on the 1st of each month
  • Quarterly: Resets on the 1st of each quarter (January, April, July, October)
  • Yearly: Resets on the 1st of January each year
  • All-time: Does not reset

All recurring limits reset at midnight, UTC+0. Any unused limit amount from the previous period does not carry over into the new period.

Note: You can also create single-use company cards, which can be used for a single successful transaction. These are helpful for bill payments or when signing up for free trials.

Step 7 (Optional): Configure advanced card controls

You can also set up optional advanced controls for each card, such as adding date limits or controlling the transaction types. Learn more about advanced card controls here.
